The Greatest Gift We Never Asked For

On Christmas morning, our granddaughter, Molly, slowly approached her gifts from Santa which were displayed in the living room. Her hazel eyes grew larger as she stared at her new purple bicycle, the fancy purple "princess" dress, the art kit, the mermaid Barbie doll and the purple make-up bag. (Have you guessed that purple is her favorite color?) She started smiling, then jumping around and finally said, "Wow, Santa brought us things we didn't even ask for. He brought us stuff we didn't know we wanted!" In my mind I said "Yes, it's just like Santa. And one day, maybe you'll realize (much earlier than I did) that it's just like our loving God to give us more than we ask for and to give us gifts we never knew we wanted." And of course, His greatest gift to us. The one we needed the most: His Precious Son.
